Amazon Kindle Fire HD features a new 1280x800 high definition LCD display that brings your content to life. With a beautiful screen, refined interface, and huge coffer of media consumption options, the Kindle Fire HD is a decent HD media player and document reader. But before you put local contents to the Kindle Fire HD tablet, itís better to make sure that your files are supported by the device.

Kindle Fire HD supports multiple file types that are free of digital rights management software. These types of files may be transferred to your Kindle Fire HD via USB:
  • Documents: AZW, TXT,PDF, MOBI, PRC, DOC, DOCX
  • Audio supported within Music: Dolby Digital (AC-3), Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC-3), MP3, Non-DRM AAC (.m4a), MIDI, OGG, WAV, OGG, WAV, MP4, AAC LC/LTP, HE-AACv1, HE-AACv2, AMR-NB, AMR-WB
  • Images: JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP
  • Video: MP4, 3GP, VP8 (video playback at 720p)

You can transfer a variety of content from a Windows or Mac computer to your Kindle Fire HD through a micro-USB connector, including music, videos, photos, and documents. Hereís a short guide for copying files from PC/Mac to Kindle Fire HD.

1. Connect your Kindle Fire HD to your computer with a micro-USB cable (sold separately).
2. Slide the arrow from right to left to unlock your Kindle.
3. Open the Kindle Fire HD drive on your computer. Your Kindle Fire HD will appear as an external storage drive or volume on the computerís desktop.
4. Drag and drop your content into the applicable content folder, such as Music, Video or Pictures.
5. When you are done transferring files, press the Disconnect button at the bottom of the Kindle Fire HD screen and eject it from your computer, then unplug the USB cable.

Please note:
1. MKV, AVI, WMV videos are not accepted formats. In order to put MKV/AVI/WMV/VOB/MPEG/TiVo onto Kindle Fire HD for playing back, you have to convert them to Kindle Fire HD optimized.mp4 videos in the first place. iTunes movies canít be played on the Kindle Fire HD tablets because they are protected contents.
