With those features mentioned, you will have great video experience for watching videos on Google Nexus 4. However, if you have a glance on the main spec of Google Nexus 4, it's easy to find that Android handset's video format is limited as other tablets. Thus, if you wanna watch more 1080p/720p movies on your Google Nexus 4, first you need to convert the videos like AVI, WMV, MKV, TiVo, VOB, MPG etc. to Nexus 4 compatible video formats like the H.264 encoded MP4 and then transfer them to your device for playback.

How to Convert MKV/AVI/WMV/MPG/TiVo/VOB to Google Nexus 4 supported video files

Note: The quick start guide below uses Video Converter Windows screenshots. The way to encode video files to Nexus 4 on Mac is almost the same. Just make sure you get the right version according to your computer operating system.

    1. Install and Launch Pavtube Video Converter, click "Add Video" or "Add From Folder" icon to import source Video files. Batch conversion is supported so that you can add multiple files to convert at a time.

    2. Click "Format" bar, you can easily find the optimized videos for the Nexus 4 under "Android > Google Nexus 7 H.264 Video (*.mp4)" (Download a patch here to get the Nexus 4 preset]). The preset is specially designed for Nexus 7, but can could fit on the Nexus 4 perfectly. If you like, you can also click the "Settings" button to change the video resolution, encoder, frame rate, etc.

Tip: The supported resolution of Nexus 4 goes up to 1080p, though video playback and most apps never break out of 720p. For watching videos on Nexus 4, 720p with 1500~2000kbps is just all right. I found bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss, and vice versa.

    3. After everything done, simply press the big "Convert" button to start the MKV/AVI/WMV/TiVo/VOB/MPG to MP4 video conversion for Nexus 4. After that, you can transfer the result videos to your Nexus 4 via USB cable. Enjoy!
