How to Encode Movies to Play on Kindle Fire HD

Basic Tips for Enjoying Videos on Kindle Fire HD - If your movie isn't already in one of the Kindle Fire HD supported formats or it's still on a DVD or Blu-ray, you'll need to encode/re-encode it first. Here's how.

Both the the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD's beautiful 1,280x800-pixel screen and the 8.9-inch model's 1,920 x 1200-pixel screen are great for watching movies. The Jelly Bean tablets supports MP4, H.264, H.263, MPEG4, 3GP, VP8(.webm) video codecs. If your movie isn't already in one of the supported formats or it's still on a DVD or a Blu-ray, you'll need to encode/re-encode the video files to Kindle Fire HD compatible video formats first.

Of course, most of you are not about to pay Amazon' ridiculous prices to watch movies and TV shows you already own on DVD, Blu-ray or the 1080p/720p videos you've downloaded from websites. Instead, you can transfer these movies to your Kindle Fire HD 7"/8.9" tablet for playback with some help from third-party softwares. Below a simple tutorial for you to better convert and copy Blu-ray/DVD movies and various formats of 1080p/720p MKV, AVI, VOB, TiVo, MPG, etc. videos to Kindle Fire HD. Here's how:

Free Download and install the App: Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate

It's an all-in-one app right for you. If you are a Mac user, you can use its equivalent Mac version - iMedia Converter Mac to achieve your goal smoothly. Overall, The program can help you compress 1080p Blu-ray to Kindle Fire HD, rip DVD movie to Kindle Fire HD and convert HD videos to Kindle Fire HD, including MKV, AVI, MPG, VOB, TiVo and more, everything can be transferred to Kindle Fire HD optimized formats at ease. Here is how:

First, Download the Ultimate Video Converter for Kindle Fire HD

(Download here if you using Mac 10.5 or 10.6)

Guide: Sync/Transfer Movies to Kindle Fire HD - DVD, Blu-ray, and 1080p/720p HD videos

The quick start guide below uses the video converter Ultimate Windows(Windows 8 included) screenshots. The way to convert video files to Kindle Fire HD on Mac (Lion and Mountain Lion included) is almost the same. Just make sure you get the right version according to your computer operating system.

    1. Add Video files to the program

Once run the Ulitmate Video Converter software, you can click "Add Video" to load video files like MTS/M2TS, MKV, VOB, MOV, TOD, TiVo, etc or click on "BD/DVD disc" icon to load movie from DVD and Blu-ray source(Disc, folder, ISO).

    2. Select output format

Choose the output format. Click "Format" bar, you can get optimized videos for Kindle Fire HD under Android > Amazon Kindle Fire HD H.264(*.mp4). The output videos could fit on your Amazon tablet perfectly.

    3. Set output quality (Optional)

If you like, you can click "Settings" to change the video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. For watching videos on Kindle Fire HD, 720p with 2000kbps is just all right. According to my experience, the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss, and vice versa.

    4. Start converting video files to Kindle Fire HD

After above steps, just go back to the main interface and click "Convert" button to begin converting DVD, Blu-ray and various formats of 1080p video files to Kindle Fire HD MP4 videos. When the ripping task is completed, you can click "Open" to find the ripped videos. After that, connect your Kindle Fire HD to computer via USB and transfer the videos to it with ease. Just enjoy the videos!
