Correct. But you need to consider what you are getting for the money:

    • A tablet for half the price of pretty much everything else out there (not including the poor quality no-brands).
    • Full integration to Amazon's services.
    • 1000's of free TV shows and movies and books if you have Amazon Prime.
    • An app store run by Amazon who make sure everything will work with the Fire.
    Tablets: Kindle Fire
Portable Media Players: Samsung Galaxy S2, Onda VX590T, Cowon J3
Settop Media Players: WD TV Live Streamer, Xtreamer SideWinder3, Crystal Acoustics MediaMatchBox
    Software: DVD Catalyst, MakeMKV

the kindle has hidden bluetooth functionality... folks are working on that. anything with wifi has potential for additional ports of access.

    Thank you both.
    Does everyone recommend rooting?

I wouldn't bother. But you have to ask yourself why you're rooting and what you hope to gain.

    Right good point.
    Here is what I will use the kindle for;
    Forums (taptalk)
    YouTube
Movies (I am a huge movie buff)
Listen to music (noticed the speakers are great)
    Gmail
    Online shopping
    Browser

My uses are all the same, except I don't use YouTube. I wouldn't bother rooting.

If you use it for watching movies at home, DVD Catalyst also have a piece of software to stream movies from your PC to the Kindle, to save you having to use the internal memory.

The catalyst thing I have to read up on don't quite get it yet.
My netbook is all I have as a pc and I guess I can stream thay way via tiversity app?
Also- does it matter where I buy it? Bestbuy vs. Amazon?

Doesn't make any difference where you buy it from.

Tversity is a DLNA streamer, there might be a DLNA client in the Amazon App Store. You'd have to check.
