Hello, just picked up a Fire HD 7" from Best Buy, they had an open box for $185.

Started with an Droid Eris, upgraded to a Droid X, then a Bionic, the 4G sucked so VZW sent me out my Razor.
I had a budget, ~$99, android tablet from Meijers, Boss Electronics, for about 1 hour. Returned it, screen didn't work.

First thoughts is this is a really good e-reader, I'm disappointed at the lack of Google apps in the Amazon store.
You would think that they would at least add Google's app to their for store since they are using Google's Android OS.
I would understand Play not being there, but Gmail, Drive, Maps, etc. etc.

The Fire Just doesn't seem complete.

I'm waiting for FreeTime, this will probably become the de-facto computer for my children. So a good and simple implementation of that will be important.

They need to fix, or help developers fix, compatibility issue's with App's in there own store. Apps marked "Kindle Tablet Edition" should work with all Kindle tab's.
I have 3 apps that I want to try but can't because they don't show up on my Kindle Fire HD or they have a red X on Amazon's site.
One WebMD, has a green check, but I don't see it in my Library.

For a tablet, I like the Amazon Fire UI. The icon driving OS is dated and I like seeing the built in organization of the Amazon Fire UI.

For me though, if a 2GB of RAM ICS tablet was available for under $300, I wouldn't have bought the Kindle. The Nexus 7 was running close, but Freetime, Prime and Amazon Owners LL leaned me in the Fire direction.

    Welcome to the forum
Have a look around the forum, there are ways to get the Google apps onto a Fire listed in some threads about the Fire 1. I can't promise it'll work on yours but it's worth a look around and trial since it's just installing some .apks
There hasn't been much traffic about the HD yet but hopefully that'll change soon, especially once the 8.9 releases next month.
