The first thing you could try would be turning off your router for a minute and then back on. Whenever the wifi gets flaky on my Fire that usually does does the trick.
I am using wifi from a qwest modem. my laptop works fine with the wifi. I have tried the reset button on the back and that didn't work either.
Mine only clears up when it acts up by unplugging it for a couple of minutes. The reset button doesn't help a bit.

You can also try to tap and hold the connection on your kindle fire and if there is an option to "forget" the connection tap that. Then turn wifi off then back on and try to reconnect to your usual connection. If you use a password (which you should for security) you will need to reenter it if you forget the connection. If this isn't clear let me know. Good luck!

OK I tried the "forget" thing and it did nothing. I never get the tower to show on the screen. It blinked very fast when I tried the forget.
Have you tried checking your wi-fi connection from the settings? Go to settings (the gear icon in the top right corner), tap on "More" scroll and tap on "Wireless Network". From there it should load what wi-fi connections are in range. Try tap/hold to forget your current connection and then reconnect.
Here's a link to Amazon's help page about it:

If it doesn't work I'd suggest contacting Amazon's support for help. The link above has a "Contact Us" button in the right hand column where you can email, chat, or even call support.
Good luck!
