Have a KF...can I read my books on a basic Kindle?

My wife and I are sharing MY Kindle Fire and I'm looking at purchasing a basic Kindle for reading outside since we all know that the Fire is not the easiest to read in bright sunlight. My question is: Can I read my current book from the Fire on the Kindle basic? If WiFi is unavailable (say at the beach) can I store my current book on the basic?

Just some questions before I purchase the basic.

Yes you can. I switch back and forth between my Fire and Kindle Touch.
The only bugaboo is without Wi-Fi you won't be able to whisper sync. That is finishing a page on one device and it syncs the page location to the other automatically.
If you are at the beach and the hotel has Wi-Fi, you start a book in the room on the Fire and want to finish on the beach just turn on the regular Kindle and let it sync before leaving the Wi-Fi and you'll be golden

I really enjoy my Kindle Touch and actually do what I suggested before in reverse. I use the Touch 99% of the time when reading but will sync to the Fire if I'm going to be in a non well lit area, and like outside at night or after everyone goes to bed and we've got the lights off.
The Kindle basics' "store" is a bit different, not as flashy but just as easy to buy books and download your books from the "archived items" business to your device as on the Fire.

Don't mean to bump this topic up, but I also do the same Switching between etc. Depends where I am, what I'm doing, and what the environment looks like lol
