Kindle Fire Not Much of a Loss Leader After All...

"After Amazon announced it would charge $199 for the Kindle Fire, a big question was how much not whether the company would lose money on every device sold. According to a new teardown report on the device, the answer is: not as much as expected.

After examining the innards of a Kindle Fire, the research firm IHS iSuppli estimated it costs Amazon $201.70 to manufacture every one of the devices. That figure includes $185.60 in parts costs and $16.10 in manufacturing-related expenses."

One nice thing about buying the Fire: I get one month Prime and free 2 day shipping for a month on orders ordered from Amazon

I first ordered through a Amazon vendor, but cancled once I noticed it wasn't eligible for Prime shipping.

I found a similar item and reorded from Amazon, who ships it.

    I just saved about $8 .

I'm sure they won't loose money on very many of them.

My daughter has her Amazon account already, but doesn't know about me getting her a Fire, for music and merchandise purchases. With the ability to buy other stuff for it, like apps, I'm sure she will be the type of customer Amazon was aiming at with the Fire
