    Texting from a Kindle Fire

I am having trouble figuring out how to text from my Kindle Fire. I am not rooted, and don't want to do so. I have a shortcut from the Web to Google Talk, and seem to be able to text to my gmail contacts through that, but do not receive any texts back from them on the Fire. I also text to people that don't use gmail, so I need a texting app. for that also. I downloaded text+, but can't figure out how to text from there. I am at a loss here, maybe I am missing something simple, but just can't seem to make any of this work correctly? This is my first tablet, and is sorta frustrating right now trying to figure all these things out.....

Text + texting, in the upper right is an icon to initiate a new text. It does need a wifi connection to send or receive texts.
Have you set up your account yet? I'm just trying to figure where to start a "how to" post from

You have to set up an account and they will assign you a phone number. From that point it works like a phone texting app. A really nice feature is if you have an Android or ios phone you can put the app on them as well, sign into your account on them and the conversations will sync between devices like whisper sync does with kindle books. It's really neat

Is the cost free? There is no fee for texting through this?? Sounds like I could then cancel my texting package on my phone?

Hello all! Obviously I am new here

It is my understanding that Text+ works great, but you don't get notifications of new texts unless you currently have the program running. Is this correct? I am interested in finding out if there is a way with the Kindle Fire to be doing something else (reading, example) and get a notification when a text comes in... can the Fire do this?

    Take care,
    Rob

You get notifications like you would on your phone, iow Text+ doesn't have to be open in the foreground but you do have to have a data signal .

Do the notification sounds work when the Kindle Fire is in sleep mode?
