    Crossing the border-Streaming Media issues

Just took Via-Rail from Toronto to Windsor..to get to Detroit from New York. Via Rail has wifi on their trains and the Fire was nice to have along...however Pandora would not work (screen popup: Pandora does not work in this country) Amazon Prime would not download streaming video (screen popup: Unable to download try again later) and even YouTube would not work (jump to screen (Via Rail denied access).

We were a bit disappointed since we travel this route fairly often. Are these licensing issues? Would these services work if the Fire was registered from a Canadian address? Do Canadians have the same issues crossing into the U.S.? Ninety percent of the population of Canada lives withing 50 miles of the US border...it seems unfortunate that sevices (including Cell Phone and Weather reporting) cannot be more seamless.

Well, that last message is telling you that Via Rail has blocked video access for their internal WiFi system, probably to prevent passengers from tying up all the available bandwidth trying to stream video. So, while most of the messages you got were because the various services have blocked access in Canada, it seems unlikely that you're going to be able to stream or download video on the train due to the filters the railroad has installed. BTW most airlines that provide WiFi do the same - they both depend on fairly low-bandwidth sources and can't support multiple passengers trying to move video over the network.
