I have Kindle apps for my PC (loaded onto my Asus netbook), my HTC Thunderbolt (& previously my OG Droid), have a 3G/WiFi/Kindle Keyboard, & pre-ordered a Kindle Touch & Fire. I've got an Audible.com & Amazon Prime account. Why wouldn't I want a Fire? Yep - Amazon is sucking me in. - But at <$200, I can play with it & then decide whether I need a more powerful tablet that will not load Amazon & Audible content.![]()
Its not for everyone but hey, Asus isnt so bad.

Looks like the op needs to do some updating.
You are exactly correct. It is the Fire's connection to the Amazon market and the Kindle that most of the people who buy it will want. My wife has a Kindle and now getting a Fire to expand the use factor. Otherwise we would have gotten a 7" tablet like the Samsung or something similar! That said it would be nice if it had a camera.
And compared to the NC my daughter has, Amazon has so much great varieties of books that is FREE. Each day there's always something new. And I'm glad they partnered with Android OS.
B & N doesn't have the variety like Amazon. Thats IMO
