    New Update 6.2

There are reports that Amazon has pushed a new update to the Fire today. Would anyone with the update installed report back on any noticeable changes and, specifically, if it is still possible to side-load apps. Thank you.

Its an OTA Auto Update, nothing new or exciting to report. Still no fix for the carasoul gripe. The update can be downloaded here manually. Just download it and drop it into the updates folder on your kindle then go to settings>device>update your kindle to apply.

    *For those on root*
This update DOES break root privileges. Follow my root guide in order to restore it back to root privelages.

I'm in no hurry -- it will come. My question still stands: is side-loading apps still possible?

    I'm still on 6.1.
My "update Kindle" button is greyed out.

    Here's what I have noticed:

When you power off and are charging, the orange light is no longer on.

The background on the Doc tab have no "shelves".

    It does seem faster.

When you boot the name on the upper left corner is "My Kindle" and then changes to whatever you named it if you tap it.

Sideloading apps. I have previously downloaded from Getjar. I just tried 3 and it appears that you can only download onto a phone now.

    Anyone else?

Maybe I will try from the beginning again and see if it works. Would it make sense to be able to only be allowed to download onto a phone?

Sideloading apps was possible previous to this update. They are not going to remove this function via any updates.
