Silk Browser Privacy and Speed Solution

I noticed that my IP address was not being reported correctly at various sites and that my download speed was a fraction of what it should be at speedtest.net

Did some research and found that the Silk Browser is configured to go through a Proxy server by default. Here is the article and fix.

Anyway, go to the browser settings and in advanced and uncheck Accelerate Page Loading

Wait a second; are you suggesting we do this counter-intuitive "fix" to improve surfing speed? Thanks for the info.

You got it. Pages load faster now, speedtest.net now reports the correct 6.5 MB speed I should have, my IP is reported correctly now, and I'm not using Amazon's proxy server where they can see everything I do on the web.

Silk appears to be a massive massive fail.

Seems that that article is saying that speed will be slower without EC2
From the site: "Amazon emphasized that Kindle Fire owners can use Silk and have the choice of not using EC2.
If users want more privacy, the technology will still work for them, but only at slower speeds.

Did I miss something in the article? How do you disconnect from the cloud EC2 proxy? And unchecking that box did make the browser faster.

By unchecking the box you are no longer going through the proxy.

is this still applicable, even after the most recent update?
