Is there a way to get Facebook, imdb, the greeting from Bezos off the carousel and the device without rooting it?
Press on it for a few seconds and a screen come up with "add to favorites"," remove from device"..make your choice.
That doesn't work on the preloaded apps
My guess is, if it is like the phones, you need to root your Kindle first and then install something similar to Titanium Backup and use it to remove items that you no longer want. I have rooted my device but have not yet tried to remove unwanted apps.
