There is an ambient light sensor btw

Put my Fire in the Folio case and noticed there was a circular cutout to the top left of you are holding it speakers up in portrait. Looking for the reason I see the little sensor tucked in there. It's certainly not a camera.

I only post this thought because I read in at least one review heartburn that you "must manually adjust the brightness because there is no sensor."

There may be an ambient light sensor but does it work? It doesn't seem to work on my KF.

My Kindle started out with a button for Auto Brightness but now it's gone. Don't know how to get it back. I also wish I could turn the brightness down more, especially when doing some dark room viewing.

The sensor is absolutely there. There isn't an option for auto-brightness. They must have had a problem w it.

Brightness can be adjusted .. check out either the "Quick User Guide" I made available .. or .. go to Amazon.com and upper left corner .."HELP". Do a search for Kindle Fire and there are six videos to explain basic functions ..including adjusting brightness.

Of course you may adjust brightness. I am speaking to the sensor on the Fire that it is not using to adjust the brightness automatically.

The cutout is there, but I'm not sure anything is actually installed there. I mean, it doesn't appear to be a photo sensor. It doesn't look.like.one to me, anyway. It merely looks like part of a semiconductor... non-sensor-related if you catcq my drift.

I noticed this when I unboxed the kindle fire, it looked like a camera but its an ambient light sensor. Its on the upper left hand corner.
