I have some called "Skull Candy" which I like. I paid about $30 for them.
Before that I would buy these cheap $3 ear buds made by GE that not only lasted adout two months before they broke but the sound was
hollow and weak as well.
The Skull Candy ear buds sound very good and they hold up well to me pulling them out of my ears.
If you want over-the-ear headphones, the Sony MDR7506 are AMAZING for movies.
If you want in-ear headphones then the Sennheiser CX300B MK II are good and durable.
Tablets: Kindle Fire
Portable Media Players: Samsung Galaxy S2, Onda VX590T, Cowon J3
Settop Media Players: WD TV Live Streamer, Xtreamer SideWinder3, Crystal Acoustics MediaMatchBox
Software: DVD Catalyst, MakeMKV
I like the budget and affordable headphones from meelectronics.
They are really good, and an up and coming brand =). Check them out! MEElectronics | www.meelec.com

That's the thing with me...
I yank and pull on these things and they normally won't last long that way.
One of the many reason I try to stay with the “lower priced” earbuds. I can't see dropping $50 or $100 plus on headphones / earbuds. Believe me $30 was hard. lol!!
So far my Skull Candies have held up to my abuse.
For an outstanding value for highly portable on-ear headphones, try the Sennheiser PX-100-II. They fold into a size comparable to a pair of eyeglasses and outperform competitors at three times the price. If you prefer a closed design, consider the PX-200-II. Outstanding sound at less than $45 for the PX-100-ii and about $65 for the "200" closed model.
Sound preferences are highly subjective, of course, but if you check various review websites, you'll find the Sennheisers rated very highly. A word of caution, though. If you're looking for bass response that will rattle your rib cage, these aren't for you. They're designed to provide a true response throughout the sound spectrum.

With very very few exceptions....you get what you pay for....bottom line
