Since the Fire comes with the Corning - 'Gorilla" glass and the ads state .. "Our state-of-the art Kindle Fire display is chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, making it extra durable and resistant to accidental bumps and scrapes. " Plus, I think I read somewhere that the Kindle Fire display glass was coated for glare and UV too.
So is a screen saver needed? Part II of my question would be; if you feel one would be wise to apply .. which one would you recommend?
You mean a cover for the screen, rather than a screen saver, which is a different thing,
It depends, how clumsy/ careless are are you, a band round the device is a good investment as it will take a lot of the shock out if you drop it, though no use if you drop it on a sharp point that contacts the screen. A cover has much the same effect. A screen protector that cover the whole screen is probably needed if you are likely to throw it across the room on a regular basis, out it on a car roof and drive off or sit on it with keys in your pocket etc
